Lisanne Walma

I am a PhD candidate at Utrecht University, involved in the digital humanities project Translantis. This project examines how American references featured in Dutch public discourse in the twentieth century. In my project I look at the role of American references in depictions on controlled drugs in Dutch news media throughout the twentieth century. For my study of newspapers I use text-mining, named entity recognition and topic modelling.

I have studied in a number of disciplines; I have degrees in both Pharmacy and American Studies, and I try to keep this interdisciplinary focus throughout my current work.

Moreover, I am passionate abut teaching and interested in using digital tools to support and develop education.
